Hi Friends!
Rachelle here from Arizona Oasis. Dave & Laura (our managers) took me off roading in their side by side and we had a blast! We stopped for lunch in Quartzsite at a divey, wild west outdoor dining area called Beer Belly’s Adult Daycare.
This is the spot to stop if you’re craving deep fried food and a cold beer. They have a bar and a food truck that tag teams to service an outdoor semi-covered seating area.
Beer Belly’s is a bar and is cash only, so don’t forget to bring your change! If you have kids, you may want to check out Silly Al’s (Beer Belly’s is 21+), but don’t miss the slow churned ice cream stand next to Beer Belly’s — Your kids will LOVE it (I did!).
The food truck menu has fair food items like fries, jalapeño poppers, burgers, and wings. The corndogs are hand dipped and made fresh to order. Laura ordered one and said it was excellent.
My favorite thing was the curly fries. They cut up fresh potatoes, cooked them to order and formed them into a curly fry block — such a fun idea!
The bathrooms have wooden tiles on the wall that patrons have decorated. Some were memories, others were funny quips. Ask them for a tile and commemorate your trip!
This spot has bands and music performers come through on the weekends. Send them a message on Facebook or give them a call for more info. Their number is (928) 927-8500.
Before getting back on the trails, we took a right out of Beer Belly’s and stopped at a handmade ice cream stand.
The stand has an old timey ice cream maker complete with a flywheel belt and popping motor. It’s slow churned and made right there at the ice cream stand.
I was looking for a small portion (since we were about to get back on the trail). Turns out, the small was massive, and it makes me wonder what a large looks like! I got pistachio, ate (almost) all of it and have no regrets.
We took a couple hours getting to Quartzsite (we explored and stopped at a couple fun places!), but we could have made it in about 45 minutes if we had gone directly from Arizona Oasis without stopping.
I have more adventures to share with you soon — a human footprint that’s been fossilized into rock and an active mine with an old stone house, several artifacts and a surprising row of toilets.
Rachelle
